According to the latest stock assessment, geoducks are not overfished by fishermen and the stock is in good condition.

Ecological effects

Hand-picking fishing methods allow careful selection of catch, and the fishery has little direct impact on the habitat or other fish species. There are no endangered, threatened, protected (ETP) species interactions in the fisheries.

Management

Monitoring and control of geoduck populations are performed on an annual basis with the support and funds of the harvesting industry. Geoduck commercial harvesting is controlled by a Conservation and Protection programme which includes an strict system of licenses and validations of every catch landed. Overall management is largely effective.
