Feed

No feed is introduced in this production method. There is no fishing pressure to wild stock.

Ecological effects

Due to intensive farming, the cage units themselves and net biofouling will cause a slowdown in water flow increasing water pollution. The risk of farmed abalone escaping to the wild is low to moderate. Major regional disease outbreak is a significant problem, leading to potential environmental impact. Habitat alteration under this production method is low to moderate.

Management

China is focusing on land and water use, habitat protection and chemical use. There is a lack of comprehensive environmental impact assessment. Overall management is partly effective.
