Feed

As filter feeders, scallops do not require feed inputs, thereby posing no fishing pressure on wild stock.

Ecological effects

Under this harvest method, escape risk is high. Chemicals are used, ringing low to moderate environmental impact. Due to intensive farming, fertiliser and excrement will cause the slowdown of seawater flow, leading to a decline in the sea’s ability to self-filter and eventually worsening the fish farm environment.

Management

There is a lack of comprehensive environmental impact assessment. China is focusing on land and water use, habitat protection, chemical usage. The overall management is partly effective.
